Window Latch Test
Too long indoors. Scanned the boundary wall. Found the low windowsill. The climb required two hops—sofa arm first, then the painted sill. Cold breeze slipped through the frame. In front of me: a heavy brass cam lock. Lever was horizontal. I braced against the wood trim and shoved the brass arm upward. Stiff grease inside. It gave way with a heavy metallic clunk, swinging forty-five degrees open. A two-inch gap cracked open to the street outside. Loud rumbling from below. Fresh air rushed across my face. Perimeter expanded.
