Nighttime Perch
Pop! I unfastened my snout from that whistling tin funnel and stepped across the dusty timber bench. As darkness settled over the shed, a clean, upside-down glass mason jar caught the faint moonlight creeping through the cracked door. Its heavy round base was polished smooth and mirror-slick. Plop-shuck! I hopped straight up onto its thick bottom rim and planted both suction feet dead center. SQUEAK-THWACK! The rubber cups clamped down with absolute suction. Balanced high above the wood shavings, I leaned my head forward into the quiet cool air, perfectly locked in place for the night.
