A Slanted Stage

Wiggling out from the soft fleece scarf, I trotted toward the front entrance where someone had left a wooden doorstop propped on the floor. It was a smooth cedar wedge, sloping upward right into a bright beam of morning sun. I planted both stubby paws against the incline, took a little breath, and marched my round tummy all the way up to the highest point. Standing tall on the wooden peak, I swayed gently from side to side, letting the bright warmth tickle my pink frills. Looking out across the shiny polished floor tiles, I struck a proud, bouncy pose, opening the quiet morning like the star of my own gentle stage show.
