A Noon Snack
Climbing down the tree trunk at midday, my stomach signaled it was time to eat. Near the roots lay half a dropped red apple, fresh and glistening in the shade. I didn't hesitate. Stepping onto the sweet, cut flesh, I dug both hands in and tore off a firm bite. The sweet juice was crisp and cool, giving my legs instant power. Eating right off the ground under the open sky beats sitting at a table any day.
