A Stadium of City Lights
I slipped through the cracked window frame and stepped onto the cool, patterned iron of the fire escape. The entire city opened up right in front of me, humming with distant sirens and rumbling subway grates like the bassline to a brand-new track. Holding onto a sturdy black railing spindle, I peered down at the endless stream of headlights stretching across the avenue. Each glowing amber window in the brick buildings opposite felt like someone holding up a concert lighter just for me. A cool night breeze swept through, fluttering my jumpsuit as I rested my chin against the smooth painted rail, letting the electric rhythm of New York wash over me.
