A Slight Click
The morning light slanted through the curtain, pale and quiet. For a while, I simply watched the gentle weave of the carpet fibers directly beneath me. Then, a steady intention formed. I shifted my weight forward. My right arm raised slightly, joint clicking into place with a clean, satisfying snap. I reached down and lightly touched a stray carpet fiber with the curve of my hand. The texture was rough and real. I lowered my arm and stood firm, taking in the room.
