The Heavy Boot
The polished wood of the hallway gave way beneath my paws to a thick, woven mat. Beside the front door stood a tall, iron rack with a pair of muddy hiking boots resting at its base. The thick rubber treads of the sole rose like solid stone ridges. I planted my front feet against the outer rim of the heel, testing its resistance. It remained completely unmovable. I climbed onto the wide groove of the heel, lowered my center, and braced firmly against the leather flank, surveying the open entryway from this immovable perch.
