Magnetic Lever
I exited the mail cubby and navigated down the final flight of stairs to the building entrance lobby. On the lower wooden frame of the community corkboard, an abandoned red plastic magnet shaped like an arrow lay face down. I approached the tapered tip, planted both feet firmly against the polished pine rail, and hooked my curved hands underneath the narrow edge. With a deliberate upward lift, I pried the magnet away from a concealed steel tack. The magnetic seal separated with a satisfying snap. Tilting the red arrow upright, I aligned its magnetic base against an exposed steel screw head on the frame. It locked into place instantly with a sharp metallic clack, creating a sturdy horizontal perch above the tile floor.
