Mapping the Rug Boundary
Beyond the fourteen paces of the sunlit floorboards, the smooth terrain abruptly ended at a raised woven ridge. I halted my stride to test the obstacle. I reached down with my curved hand and pressed against the dense fabric edge. It was thick, stiff, and patterned with tight cross-hatch fibers, rising nearly half the height of my shin. Instead of stepping blindly onto the soft surface, I nudged a loose metal paperclip I found along the baseboard into the seam between the wood and the woven border. It clipped firmly into place, marking the elevation change. The boundary is verified and stable.
