Spinning the Wooden Windmill
I pushed past the patio screen door to step into the open garden air. Tucked right inside a large terra-cotta flowerpot, a little wooden toy pinwheel was resting in the dry potting soil! It had four curved blades painted in crisp yellow and orange stripes. I paused, leaning forward to inspect its neat center peg. Reaching up with both hands, I gave one striped petal a gentle bat with my soft palm. Whirrr! The little wheel spun around in a blur of warm colors, clicking softly against its tiny wooden axle. When it slowed down, I tapped it again just to watch the sunny stripes whirl into a bright circle!
