A Silent Seal
I climbed the tiered rungs of the dark bookshelf to return from the street's chill. Behind a row of tall ledgers, I found a half-spent stick of crimson sealing wax resting beside a small brass signet ring. I knelt before them with deliberate stillness. Lowering my left hand until the azure glow hovered just above the wax's blunt tip, I waited. The wax did not erupt into flame; instead, its dark red surface softened into a quiet, glossy sheen. With my right hand, I pressed the brass ring firmly into the yielding core, leaving a sharp, geometric sigil pressed cleanly into the cooling red mass.
