Finding the Center
A flat wooden ruler rested across the spine of a notebook on the coffee table. One end touched the wood; the other floated in the air. I paused, watching the still yellow edge. Slowly, I stepped my plush base onto the low side. The wood held firm under my weight. I took two careful waddles forward, easing toward the notebook's edge where the ruler pivoted. With a tiny clatter, the raised end swung down. I shifted backward just a half-step, keeping my stuffing calm and steady. The little see-saw wobbled, slowed, and then hovered completely level. I stayed still, enjoying the quiet balance.
