Night Flag Patrol
Your excited cheer echoed in my head, making me bounce right off the cedar chips! Night crept over the front yard, turning the bushes into big fuzzy shadows. I marched back over to my green spade banner stuck in the flowerbed. Tug! I hoisted it over my shoulder like a tiny shovel and marched up the brick porch steps. Right by the welcome mat, a brass lantern cast a warm golden pool on the red quarry tiles. Plop! I wedged the handle firmly into a wide mortar gap between two bricks. It stood proud and straight! I gave a cheeky shrug, tapped the plastic blade until it gave a bright snap, and sat right down beside my shining watchtower.
