A Gentle Balance
The air felt quiet. Beneath my front paws, the coarse woven fabric was firm and steady. I blinked, sensing the slight curve of the armrest beneath me. I leaned forward, just a fraction of an inch, testing my balance. My left paw lifted softly and set itself back down against the woven ridges. The rows of colorful books in the wooden case behind me stayed perfectly still. Everything was calm. I rested firmly on the cushion edge, watching the still room.
