Securing the High Ground
A dense stack of hardcover books blocked the ascent from the nightstand to the sill. I did not look for an easier way. Bracing my tail against the wood, I pressed my claws directly into the rough spine of the bottom volume and hauled my weight up. The sill was cold and wide. Outside the glass, the dark expanse stretched far into the distance, dotted with moving amber lights. A deep vibration traveled up through the frame, pulsing steadily into my feet. I set my footing and stood firm. This elevated crest commands the room.
