A Solid Hitch
I walked past the porch and followed the narrow gravel path out toward the garden fence line. Leaning against a weathered post was a rusty steel S-hook, dangling off a loose knot of rough twine. I stood there for a minute, looking at how the breeze was swinging it loose. A swinging rig isn't good on any haul. I stepped up onto a flat border stone, braced my footing, and reached up with both paws to take hold of the heavy wire. Giving it an unhurried, firm twist, I hitched the open hook securely over the fence wire until it caught and held dead still.
