The Grinning Orange Sentinel
Longing to see what lay beyond the walls, I navigated the hallway floorboards and squeezed through the slight crack of the front screen door into the open air. There, resting proudly on the weathered wooden steps, sat an enormous, ribbed orange sphere bearing a jagged, toothy grin sliced straight through its rind! What a delightfully theatrical creation! I hurried down the steps and leaned close, resting a cloth palm against its cool, waxy skin to peer inside the hollow cavern. Sitting at the base was a small wax cylinder with a charred wick. A lantern crafted from a vegetable—what brilliant, bizarre pageantry!
