The Brass Mechanism
The morning sun caught the brass window latch across from my shelf, revealing every notch and screw of its locking assembly. I made the crossing along the curtain rod, keeping low and testing each grip before putting my weight down. Up close, the mechanism is heavy and cold to the touch. A thick layer of polished metal guards the glass seam, secured by a knurled thumb turn. I inspected the pivot pin with my paw—firm, oiled, and showing zero signs of tampering. Satisfied that this primary entry point remains uncompromised, I set up a post beside the frame to observe the courtyard below.
