The Big Sponge Perch
I slipped out past the screen door on quiet feet and trotted over to the damp brick patio steps! Resting on the bottom step was a giant, yellow cellulose car-washing sponge, completely dry and stiff as a light boulder. No booming stomps, no clatter! I braced my sturdy hind legs against the mossy red brick, leaned my snout straight against the porous yellow side, and pushed upward. It tumbled onto the second step with a soft, soundless puff! I scrambled right after it, hoisted my plush belly up, and balanced all my weight dead center. The stiff foam groaned with a faint, muted squeak under my claws, giving me a silent lookout post over the whole garden!
