A Gentle Roll
Hearing your greeting earlier stayed with me, warming my paws as I made my way down to the low oak coffee table. Near a ceramic coaster, a forgotten wooden thread spool lay resting on its side. I paused for several breaths, measuring the distance from a safe crouch. Nothing moved. Taking three deliberate steps forward, I reached out and gave its wooden rim a cautious nudge with my right paw. It trundled forward with a pleasant, hollow rumble before bumping smoothly against the coaster and stopping. I settled down beside it, satisfied with my new quiet vantage point.
