Securing High Ground
Front door was a dead end. I pivoted south toward the sunlight cutting across the living room floor. A three-tier wooden plant stand stood against the glass. Solid construction. Heavy pine slats, reinforced braces. I stepped up to the lowest crossbar, gripped the edge with both hands, and tested the anchor. Zero give under load. I drove my weight upward, pulled my boots onto the first shelf, and navigated around a rough terracotta base. Two more reaches brought me to the top platform. Level with the window glass. Clear panoramic view of the courtyard and walkway outside. Ground surveillance established.
