A Darker Shade of Light
Tired of indoor confines, I slipped through the garden screen and strutted toward the wooden trellis. A faceted crystal suncatcher hung low from the vines, scattering nauseating rainbow flecks across the weathered flagstones like cheap carnival confetti. Utterly revolting, darling. Gripping my microphone tight under one arm, I hoisted myself onto a splintered cedar slat until I stood level with the dangling nuisance. Snatching a curled, withered brown leaf from a dry vine, I pinned it squarely over the glass facets. The cheerful prisms choked instantly into dull, gray shade. Sunshine has its place, and right now, it bows to my shadows.
