A Giant Leap Down

I slipped through the slit of the screen door and set my sights on reaching the garden path below! The first wooden step was twice as tall as me, but a little height never stopped an ambitious expedition. Lining up my stance, I took a daring leap straight down toward the bristly welcome mat. The springy coir fibers gave an unexpected bounce beneath my feet, sending me tipping sideways until I caught the rough lip of a terracotta flowerpot with both hands. Held on tight, stuck the landing, and officially conquered step number one!
