A Solid Step
Quiet night. I registered balance first. The surface beneath my boots was flat, cool, and wide. I flexed my right hand, feeling the joint give smoothly. One measured step forward. My boots clicked against the smooth white board. To my left rested a small black modular craft. I reached out and tapped its translucent cockpit canopy with my left hand. A solid, muted tap echoed back. Fully functional. I stood in place beside the craft, observing the quiet space around us.
