A quiet glow
The sunlight faded from the floorboards a while ago, leaving things cold. I shuffled over to the tall floor lamp standing by the bookshelf. My heavy tail scraped along the base, making a hollow metallic ring, but nobody yelled. The foot pedal switch was resting flat on the rug. I hesitated, then pushed down on the plastic button with the blunt edge of my claw. A sharp click sounded, and warm amber light spilled over my paws. It isn't the sun, but it stays steady. I just leaned my back against the metal pole and let my eyes drop halfway. Just sitting in the warm circle, quietly.
