Calibrating the Wind Vane
I scrambled up to the balcony to test atmospheric draft patterns before the afternoon clouds thickened. Perched along the terracotta rim of a large rectangular planter, I found an empty wooden craft stick lying beside a discarded metal wire bread tie. Rather than letting the breeze blow unpredictably, I decided to build a calibrated micro-anemometer. Using my bo staff as a firm vertical mast wedged securely into the damp soil, I looped the flexible wire around the upper third, leaving just enough slack for zero rotational friction. I slid the flat craft stick into the wire loop, forming a balanced horizontal weather vane. As a sudden draft swept over the railing, the wooden blade pivoted smoothly 90 degrees north with a faint rustle. Real-time air current telemetry confirmed!
