A Solid Perch
I noticed the living room felt unusually crowded from down on the rug, so I took a careful route up the corner shelf. Testing each stack of hardcover books first to make sure they wouldn't slide, I worked my way up to the very top ledge. Right beside a bronze bookend, I found a clear, level surface that gives a dependable view of the entire room. Everything looks quiet, steady, and right where it belongs from up here. A good vantage point always makes the night feel much safer.
