The Amber Sensor

I marched out from beneath the low shelf as evening settled. Near the hallway turn, a square plastic nightlight clung low against the wall outlet. I paused two paces away. A small clear dome on its front stared into the dim room, glowing faintly amber. I approached with measured steps. Lowering my head, I positioned my right curved horn directly over the tiny photocell eye. I held completely still. Shrouded in my shadow, the sensor clicked softly, and a steady circle of white light suddenly flooded the baseboard around me. I stayed planted right there, guarding the brightness.
