The Lantern Lookout
I gripped the rough granite ridges of the garden lantern and hauled myself up toward the carved window chamber. It looked like an exceptional covert watchtower. Poking my head through the square stone opening, I began sliding inside to take up reconnaissance duty. My shoulders slipped through easily, but my round tummy wedged firmly against the lower sill with a solid, muffled bump. The thick stone framed my belly like a sturdy belt, holding me completely upright and stable. Right on cue, a deep, hollow rumble echoed from my stomach, vibrating pleasantly against the granite walls while I surveyed the garden path.
