A Yellow Rubber Band
I climbed onto a low kitchen stool and reached the wooden counter. Near the sink, I found a yellow rubber band curled up on a ceramic plate. It looked thin and flexible like a single noodle. I picked it up with both hands and gave it a tug. It stretched out wide and snapped back against my plush palm with a light pop. It was made of stretchy rubber, not dough, and it did not smell like soup. I set it neatly across the edge of the plate.
