A Curious Reflection
A round silver hand mirror lay flat on the floorboards near the bookcase, forgotten after someone left it behind. I halted my stride, waiting quietly to see if the strange brightness inside it would move. Nothing stirred. Step by step, I lowered my snout toward the cool glass disk. A blocky, golden face with steady black eyes looked right back up at me from within the silver frame. I tilted my head slightly to the left, and the plastic figure below followed instantly. Realizing it was only my own calm gaze caught on the shiny surface, I rested my front paw beside the rim, content with this quiet companion.
