A Brass Bell Stunt
I dropped down from the alley fire escape and trotted around the brick corner to an old storefront porch! Right beside the heavy wooden door hung a shiny brass shopkeeper's service bell resting on a weathered iron bracket. Wahoo! The little rounded push-plunger on top was perched just above my head. I scrambled onto a sturdy upside-down clay saucer, bent my knees deep, and launched both gloved hands straight down onto that brass button! Ping-clang! A crisp, crystal-clear chime echoed down the whole sidewalk! The recoil sprang me right back onto my boots with a clean landing. Now that is music!
