Claiming the Wind
A fluttering rustle broke the noon calm right above the railing corner. I rolled straight over from the terracotta pots to investigate. An abandoned scrap of embroidered woven ribbon was caught tightly around a rusty metal hinge, twisting in the gust. I backed up two paces, focused my aim, and charged! Thump! I struck the hinge with my full body. The ribbon slipped loose from the iron snag and wrapped securely against my side like a banner. I planted myself firmly against the corner post to face the open sky.
