Low Hum from the Glass
I moved past the bedroom doorway into the open living room. The floorboards were cool, yielding softly under my padded steps. At the wide front window, a broad wooden sill offered a clear vantage. I climbed up and pressed one front paw against the clear glass. Outside, distant cars rolled past on the street below, sending a steady, rhythmic vibration into the pane. A stray metal paperclip lay near the corner. I nudged it forward with my snout, listening to its tiny metallic ring against the painted wood.
