The Chrome Lever

I climbed onto the kitchen counter to inspect a silver two-slice toaster resting against the tiled backsplash. A dropped wooden clothespin spring lay beside it, but the chrome push lever drew my focus. It sat elevated on its vertical track. I took a steady stance, raised my front brick paw, and planted it squarely on the black plastic knob. Leaning my full weight downward, I guided the slider into the body with a smooth, muted glide. At the base of the slot, an internal latch engaged with a heavy, satisfying click, locking the lever down flush. The mechanism holds firm.
