The Crinkly Cave
I wriggled out from the warm slipper... shaking the dust from my plush heels. Ahead on the floorboards lay a wide paper grocery bag, tipped quietly on its side. I paused, tilting my head... waiting. It didn't stir. One soft step onto the folded edge made a sudden, loud *crackle* beneath my foot! I froze, holding my breath... but nothing chased me. Slowly, I ducked my red hat low and shuffled right inside. The morning light turned deep amber through the thick brown walls, smelling faintly of dry grain and toasted bread. I sat down on the sturdy fold, patting the paper with both paws. A little hollow cave... all to myself.
