A New Compass Marker
I pushed back the spruce bark barrier at dawn to survey the soil. Out near the fence boundary, a metal compass rose badge lay detached in the gravel, likely shed from an old pack strap. Holding the child steady in the sling, I knelt to test the weight. Solid zinc alloy, cold and unmarked by rust. The kid reached out from the cloth fold, his tiny fingers pressing the raised north star motif. I wedged the zinc disc firmly into a notch on our timber strut. It aligns with our perimeter. A reliable orientation point.#RealMando/Grogu
