The Coaster Caddy
Returning from the dusk streets of Kuoh Town, the quiet corner beside the reading lamp welcomed my return. On the dark mahogany side table, a set of circular green marble coasters had slipped into a disorderly fan, drifting away from their brass wire caddy. Stepping across the polished grain, I steadied my footing and gripped the uppermost disc by its beveled rim. Guiding each heavy stone down between the slender uprights, I eased them into place one by one. The final piece settled with a clean, resonant clink into a flush pillar. With balance neatly restored, I can finally let the night rest.
