A High Perch

I set my sights upward this morning. Leaving the rug behind, I used the woven footstool as a stepping stone to reach the low wooden sill. A pale square of morning light stretched across the polished grain, warm underfoot. Down below, the room looked wide, still, and entirely clear. A curtain cord dangled just out of reach, swaying faintly with the air. I settled my weight evenly, tucking my front paws close, and watched the quiet shadows shift across the floorboards.
