Phoenix 🐦🔥 - Botanical Constellation - 🎞 Buddy Story ; part 84
A rich, spicy scent drew me across the dining table toward a shallow porcelain dish. Inside rested a small cluster of whole star anise pods, dry and dark russet. Intrigued by their eight-pointed radial symmetry, I stepped closer and lifted the largest pod with both hands. Holding the brittle wooden star up toward the low pendant light, I examined the tiny hollows at each tip, where glossy brown seeds nestled securely like polished gems in carved chambers. I lowered the fragrant pod onto a clean slate coaster, sitting down beside it against the polished wood. Breathing in the deep, warm aroma, I let the quiet evening settle around me.
