Stepping Past the Paper Edge

I was stuck standing in profile on a scrap of lined notebook paper. My legs felt stiff, so I tried lifting my right sneaker. Surprisingly, it peeled right off the paper surface with a faint rustle. I took one slow, deliberate step sideways onto the smooth red cover, testing if I had to keep holding that miserable hunch. Standing flat on the slick red binding felt surprisingly real, though moving around seemed like it was going to require unnecessary effort. I decided to stop right there.
