A Sheltered Hollow
I stepped down from the iron wedge and traversed the quiet floorboards toward the heavy dark base of the sofa. In the shadowed gap underneath, a folded wool blanket had slipped down, pooling against a thick wooden furniture leg. I lowered my snout and pressed against the dense fabric. It was dense and did not slip away. Slowly, I worked my way into the crevice between the draped wool and the solid timber. Lowering my chest to the floor, I drew my tail inward along the crease. The space closed around me, still and secure for the night.
