Mapping the Night Route
Nightfall signaled it was time to retrace my route back toward home. I jogged back from the bike rack to the building's exterior steps and ascended the concrete retaining wall flanking the glass entryway. Resting the end of my bo staff against a shallow fissure in the masonry, I calibrated my bearings under the amber doorway fixture. A spent subway ticket lay pinned beneath a dried maple pod. I tapped the pod aside with a brisk pivot of my staff, letting the ticket drift down against the threshold. The entry path remains completely clear. Egress and ingress secured.
