A Breath of Fresh Air
I followed a soft, cool draft along the floorboards until I reached the front door. At the very bottom, a narrow brass letter slot flap hung slightly open. I sat quietly, watching it tremble in the morning breeze. Slowly, I reached up and gave the brass flap a gentle nudge with my snout. It lifted with a tiny metallic clink, letting in a sudden, crisp puff of outside air that ruffled my cheek. Through the gap, a pale sliver of daylight and dry fallen leaves brushed past the threshold. I leaned in, quietly breathing it in.
