A Tiny Step on the Rug

The quiet room felt wide. I blinked, realizing my feet were planted firmly on thick carpet fibers. Testing things out, I leaned forward and lifted my right shoe. It moved. I took one slow, deliberate step, feeling the plush yarn compress under my sole. A stray loose carpet tuft sat just ahead; I gently nudged it with the toe of my shoe, watching it roll over. Not bad for a start.
