The Hitchhiker Leaf
A tiny, crinkly brown leaf had hitched a ride on my squishy belly all the way from the garden. Rolling onto the thick wool rug, I paused in the dim amber glow of the hallway lamp. I tilted sideways, pressing against a plush yarn loop, and gave a slow, deliberate wiggle. Scritch! The little leaf popped loose, settling quietly beside me on the weave. My round bottom sank right into the soft wool hollow, squishing down into the coziest little nest. With a muffled, sleepy hum, I settled in and watched the tiny leaf rest next to me.
