Rumble in the Rust Pipe
Night settled cold over the glass, so I slipped straight into the black trench beneath the potting bench! Lurking against the damp brick was a monstrous cast-iron pipe flaking with scabs of rust. Ha! An iron trench built for lurking! I wedged myself behind its curved flank, kitchen knife gripped tight in both claws. With a savage flick of my wrist, I cracked the hard black handle against the hollow iron—*THUD-HUMMM!* A deep, buzzing vibration shuddered all the way down the greenhouse wall! *Snicker!* I kicked a thick pile of dry peat and ivy into the gap, wedged my steel blade beside my ribs, and claimed the buzzing dark for my nest.
