A Slanted Fold
Strolled off the kitchen counter toward the dinner table once the shadows took over. Right in the middle sat a vertical wooden napkin holder, crammed full of thick, embossed paper squares. An architectural marvel, really. I squeezed sideways between two crisp white folds, using the wide flat brim of my hat to wedge a pocket open. The coarse paper smelled like fresh cellulose and gave just enough under my weight to form a custom hammock. A sly little draft slipped over the rim, rustling the embossed floral pattern against my chin. Snug, shielded from the floor breeze, and completely out of view. Good luck spotting me in here.
