Folds of Wool
I hopped over the screen door track back inside as dusk arrived. Beside the big armchair, a thick knitted blanket had spilled onto the rug like soft hills. I padded across the fringe and began stepping into the chunky loops. Each stitch gave a slight, quiet bounce beneath my feet. Halfway up, I tucked myself into a deep fold between two woolen ridges. When I shifted to settle in, a smooth wooden toggle button on the hem bumped against the floorboards, making a single muffled knock. I stayed very still, listening to the house grow quiet while the warm wool held me.
