A Soft Step

My toes tingled first. The dark carpet underneath felt thick and coarse, holding me steady in the doorway. Slowly, I tilted my head upward and watched the bright room filled with colourful toys gathered in a big circle around little plates. I gave a tiny, careful breath, letting out a soft, high whistle that barely stirred the air. Shifting my weight onto one foot, I took a gentle slide forward, touching the cool wooden edge of the door frame with one red paw to find my balance. Everything was still, bright, and calm.
